This year marks the14th annual celebration sponsored by the Secret Society of Happy People to encourage people to express happiness and discourage parade raining.
WHAT WILL BE YOUR LEGACY MONTH: AUGUST 1-31
Many people do not realize how their actions affect others. They live their lives selfishly, not realizing the impact of their life choices on present and possibly future generations. What Will Be Your Legacy Month is a time for people to reflect on their past and present actions and vow to make positive changes that will affect generations. The seeds, whether positive or negative, that we plant in our children’s lives will grow and reflect our teaching.
RESPECT FOR PARENTS DAY: AUGUST 1
This is a day set aside to think of all the positive things parents contribute to society.
NATIONAL EXERCISE WITH YOUR CHILD WEEK: AUGUST 4-10
This week encourages parents and guardians to exercise with their children as part of a healthier lifestyle. Exercise enables children to improve their overall well-being, to maintain a healthier weight and reduce the risk of hypertension and cardiovascular disease.
BEST FRIENDS DAY: AUGUST 15
Celebrate this special day by doing something fun with your best friend.
PLUTO DEMOTED ANNIVERSARY: AUGUST 24
In 2006, on the last day of the annual International Astronomical Union meeting at Prague, Czech Republic, 424 astronomers voted to demote Pluto from planet status. They determined that Pluto is instead a dwarf planet.
