“The love of learning, the sequestered nooks,
And all the sweet serenity of books.”
-Henry Wadsworth Longfellow-
February comes bringing thoughts of love, friendship, AARP Free Tax Help and CHOCOLATE. You can get quite a few of these things at your Pasadena Public Library, where the AARP Free Tax Help sessions start on Friday, February 1 and the chocolate is available year round for only $.10 a mini-bar in the Friends Bookstore. The tax help sessions will be available every Thursday 9:00a.m. – 5:00p.m. and every Friday 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (excepting Good Friday) until April 15, so make it a point to take advantage of this excellent FREE service. The love and friendship might be a little harder to find, but they are also here at your Library along with a generous number of new romances and romantic DVDs that can be carried home for your enjoyment. Come on by and check us out-you might just find a sweetheart of a read!
The Fairmont Branch Library’s First Monday Book Club will read The Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter, and will meet on Monday, February 4 in the Conference Room at the Fairmont Branch Library at 6:00 p.m. Come along for a ring-side seat in history as the group follows a starstruck young Italian innkeeper, his American starlet long-lost love, the “heroically preserved” producer of the 1962 film “Cleopatra,” his idealistic young assistant, the army veteran turned novelist, rakish Richard Burton himself, and a host of husbands, wives, lovers, dreamers, superstars and losers over the next fifty years.
The Central Library’s Tea-Time Mystery Book Club will read The Monster in the Box by Ruth Rendell, and will meet in the Board Room at the Central Library on Monday, February 18 at 3:30 p.m. Coffee, tea and Valentine treats will be served as the group discusses the twists as Inspector Reggie Wexford tracks down a long-time and apparently motiveless serial killer in the town of Kingsmarkham and runs into a suspected “honor killing” of a young Pakistani girl.
Contact William Simpson (First Monday) @ Fairmont 281-998-1095 X 15 or Lucy Turoff (Tea-Time Mystery) 713-475-4984 for more information regarding these two entertaining book clubs.
